THE ENGINEERS' STRIKE
NEW ZEALAND RATES REFUSED
A NEW PHASE OF THE DISPUTE.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPIMOBT.) MELBOURNE, 17th December. A mass meeting of marine engineers rejected the owners' offer to pay according to the New Zealand rates", with a minimum of £18 per month for juniors. The men demand from £19 5s to £6110s, according to classification. (Raised December 18, 10 a.m.) The marine cooks, butchers, and bakers on Australian articles have decided to strike unless granted increased wages.
