Potter, C.M.G., Officer Commanding the Auckland Military District, is at present on an official visit to Wellington. *He will return to Auckland on Wednesday. v Mr., P, G. Morgan, Director of the New Zealand Geological Survey, after attending the Science Congress, inspected oil-boring operations at Chertscy. He intends making a geological trip up the Rakaia Gorge, and will visit Otago before returning to Wellington.
A.London .cablegram reports the death of Sir Edward Montague Nelson, aged 78 years. He was a brother of Mr. William Nelson, of Tomoarra, and an uncle of. Mr. Lionel.'Nelson, of Karori, Wellington, 'Sir Edward Nelson was one of the founders, and at the tiina of his death managing director, of the firm of Nelson Brothers.
Mr. "Jack" Brackenridge, one of the best known players of ■ the Newtown Bowling Club, has been transferred to Palmerston North. On Saturday nighthe was presented with a set of pipes by members cf the club. . Messrs'. H. Rafison, J. I,aiigton, W. Wylie, S. H. Underwood, and G. Noble voiced-the regrets of .the' members at Mr. Brackenridge's'departure. Mr. Brackenridge. in replying, said the happiest- hours of his life had been- spent with the Newtown Club.
Dr. Charles W. B. Littlejohn, F.R.C.S. (native of Nelson), who holds the degrees in arts, science, medicine, and surgery, and the diploma of. anthropology of the University of Oxford, has returned. to Melbourne. He' served in the Royal Army Medical Corps from the , day after war was declared till the armistice* was signed, and was wounded /three times, though without permanent injury. He has been awarded the Mons Modal, the Military Cross, and the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
