MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. W. G. Riddell, 'S.M., presided at the^ Magistrate's Court this morning. Four first-offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner.
Harold Roy Hector Babb', a soldier, pleaded guilty to a charge of- having obtained £4 17s from John Mortimer at Auckland on 12th July by means of a valueless cheque. Inspector Marsack said that Babb had obtained a blank cheque, \vhich he filled in for £4 7s. Hs then hired a taxicab, and tendered the cheque for a 10s fare. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when-called upon.' .

Albert Benney, alias Weeks, and Ernest Hunter appeared to answer a charge of stealing an ingot of zinc, valued at 28s, the property of the Kia Ora Galvanising Company, Egmont-street. Evidence was given that the men, who are hawkers, called at the company's office, intending to sell some scrap, zinc. There was a dispute over the weight of the zinc they had brought, and they moved on. The manager of the company then noticed that a 281b ingot was missing from the office, and, giving chase, saw his zinc being carried into : a dealer's •shop. Each man. was fined 40s, in default fourteen days in gaol. '
