MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided c-yer this morning's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. A woman was convicted on a charge of drunkenness and discharged. Oareen Dewesbury was charged with having stolen, on 3rd August, from the house of Dr. Patrick Francis 'M'Evedy three rings, valued at £10.0, the property of Mrs. M'Evedy. She was remanded to appear on. 16th instant, on the application of Inspector Marsaek. Harcvld Roy Hector Babb was remanded until Saturday on a charge of having obtained from John Mortimer, at Auckland, £4 7s by means of a valueless cheque. On a chargp of having committed an indecent act in Courtenay-place, Simon Muir was fined 20s, in'default seven days' imprisonment. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. James Wilkinson was charged with having in the train between Wellington and Paekakariki used insulting language to the guard, obstructed the latter in the execution of his duty, and refused to produce his railway ticket. On the first charge he was convicted and fined 20s, with 9s costs, in default seven days' imprisonment ; on the second charge ho was fined 10s, with 9s costs, in default three days' imprisonment; and. on the third charge he was convicted and discharged. Walter John Hamilton was fined £3, with _7s costs, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, for the use of obscene language in a public place. BYLAW CASES. For leaving a motor-car unattended in the lower part of Willis-street, George Duke Hansford was convicted and fined 10s, with 7s costs. A similar penalty was imposed in the case of Arthur Hey, whose offence was driving on the wrong side of Moles-worth-street. James Patrick Lavin, who had insufficient lights attached to his vehicle, was fined ss. with 7s costs. Wandering horses in the streets of the suburbs caused Gaetano Lamloro, of Island Bay, to be fined 10s. with 7s costs, and Vera Petherick, of Lynll Bay, sa, with a similar amount for costs.
