His Excellency the Governor-General has been informed by cable that Hib Majesty the King has been -pleased, to appoint Surgeon-General R. S. F. Henderson, R.A.M.C, Director-General of Medical Services in New Zealand, a member of the third class or Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath.

Surgeon-General Henderson, C-8., K.H.P., who has occupied his present post for some two years, was brought out to New Zealand at the special request of the Government to organise the New Zealand Medical Services and place them on a proper footing. The extent to which he has succeeded in this respect, and (.he capable manner in which his officers: have worked under him, stand 1 revealed in the present healthy condition of the men in camp, there being yesterday only one case of serious illness in the camp hospitals—a record for any winter, and particularly for the severe winter New Zealand has just had. The new Companion of the Order of the Bath is one of thesenior medical officers of the British Army, being third senior Honorary Physician to the 1 King. He has had special experience in administrative work, having filled the position of Assiotant Director of Medical Services to the- 4th (Quetta) Division, Southern Army of India, for some time. He has had leugthy service in the field. He served with the Soudan Expedition in 1885, receiving a medal with clasp and a bronze star, and the Burmese Expedition, 1885-89, for which he wears a medal with two clasps. Re accompanied the Chin Lushai Expedition in IG9O and was awarded a clasp. He served in Burma, 1891, was with the Wuntho Expedition, and was mentioned in despatches, London Gazette, 9th February, . 1892. He flaw active service again on the North-West Frontier of India from 1897 to 18S8, and won another medal with elai-p. Ho also served in the South African War,_ 1901-2, receiving the Queen's Medal with five clasps. General Henderson to-day was the recipient of numerous congratulations upon the honour bestowed on him.
