PENSIONS
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—The thanks of the community are due to your widely-read journal, and to the Second Division League, for the efforts that have ibeen made towards urging the Government to deal with the pensions of those called up for military service, taxed on pre-war earnings, on the lines laid down in the British Act. The Prime Minister, according to your morning contemporaries, h,is .stated that this will bo done. It is to be hoped that this will be .given immediate effect ito, as it will undoubtedly do much to -relieve the minds of those who are sorely ■troubled at the present injustice. The j sacrifices, in the .majority of cases, o!' those -who either huve gone voluntarily, or are called on for service, are immense, and it is the duty of the Government to see that the position of no man or his. I dependent is prejudiced by reason of the fiict that lie has done his duty for his country.— ! am, etc., DAVID E, WILKIE. 16th. August J
