HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER

A free public lecture under the auspices of the City Council, the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and the Industrial Association will be given by Mr. Lawrence Birks, B.Sc, M. Inst. C.E., Assistant Government Electrical Engineer, at the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, on Thursday evening. Mr. Birks will speak on the installation at Lake Coleridge, the growth of the demand for power in Canterbury, the supply to freezing works', flour mills, tanneries, butter factories, hospitals, and other institutions, the application of electricity for domestic purposes, and the resultant economy of coal. A large number of excellent lantern slides illustrating the works at Lake Coleridge and Christchurch will be shown. The lecture should be of particular interest to Wellington citizens in view of the scheme which is being propounded by the Government Engineers to supply Wellington from power developed at the Mangahao River. Admission is free.
