TRENTHAM SOLDIERS' CLUB
A meeting was held last night of the Mayor's Committee which has been, directing the appeal for funds to provide furniture and billiard-tables for the Trentham Soldiers' Social Club. ReporU ■were submitted as to the progress of the work, and it was stated that every'article of furniture would be in its place by Thursday next. Taking the money value of the billiard tables already promised with cash subscriptions (amounting to £1102),, it was-shown that the funds were £400 short of the total required; Three billiard tables have been offered, and another from Dunedin is expected. The committee decided to mate a special appeal to the public to liquidate the amount still desired, and they would be doubly grateful if sufficient support were forthcoming to enable this ■ to bo done before the club is opened. Sir James AUra i« to be asked to perform the opening ceremony on Saturday week/ sth May. The Camp Conunandanfc, Colonel R. H. Potter, has'been invited to preside on the occasion, and it is hoped that all ( who have been associated with the furtherance of the project, together' with members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers, will be present. ' Proceedings will be-brief. The committee wishes particularly to have tho club available for use at the earliest possible date.
