MR.' HUGHES'S PROSPECTS.

MELBOURNE, 31st January. Mr. Hughes (Federal Prime Minister) and Mr. Cook (Liberal Leader) have had. a. further conference. They have decided that in. spite of the attitude of the Labour Oppossition, they will not abandon their efforts to form a National Government.

Mr. Hughes has received a communication from Mr. Lloyd George showing that the scope of the Imperial Conference has been considerably enlarged, and that it is more than ever necessary that Australia should, be directly represent-' cd. No developments are expected, before Parliament meets, next week.
