ACCOMMODATION AT TRENTHAM CAMP

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—l write to voice the wants of many officers and soldiers' wives whose husbands are in camp at Trentham. They very naturally desire to be near their husbands until they, leave for the front; but the great difficulty of obtaining accommodation in the vicinity of the camp is a very present trouble, .and prevents many a wife and mother from being with her husband at a time when, by every natural law, he is .nearest and dearest. Many men who are now in camp, as well as numbers who have already gone forward-, have made considerable sacrifices in response to the call of duty (and those who have sacrificed the most are often the last to taJk of it), arid it surely behoves those of us' who are left behind to do what is in our power to meet the desires of such as these. At Trentham and Heretaunga there are, I understand, a .number cf cottages only occupied at week-ends by townspeople. If the owners of these were aware of the inestimable benefits they would be conferring by agreeing to let their cottages—it is not charity that is wanted—l "feel sure tliat they would all willingly agree that the sniall meed of self-sacrifice thereby entailed is not too much to expect of them under the very special circumstances. (Toping that this appeal will meet the eyes and stir the hearts of those who cm: lie of real help in this matter.—l am. etc., SOLDIER'S WIFE. 54t.1i fWnW
