AUCKLAM), This Day The steamer Waimana, which arrived from London this morning, had ail, exciting experience early in September.' When sixty miles off Usbant, information was received from a neutral ship that a. German submarine was ten miles ahead, the neutral vessel having on boardJ the survivors from a British snip which] had been sunk by the submarine.. The Waimana zigzagged, and met an English steamer, oil laden. The latter was warned of the proximity of the submarine. ■ A few minutes later shots were hea-rd, shots being exchanged between the submarine, and the oil ship. The Waimana received a "5.0.5." call from the English ship, but almost immediately 'came a second message saying that the submarine had gone away. The rest of the Waimana's voyage was uneventful.
