TRENTHAM PRESBYTERIAN INSTITUTE

The new Presbyterian Institute. at Trentham is erected on a site which includes the old building. It is very centrally situated, and easy of approach, ;having frontages to the two main arteries of communication in the camp. The !main portion of the building'is'occupied by the meeting hall and concert chamber, which will seat 700 men. Alongside, of this is the reading and- writing room, ■measuring 50ft by 25ft, wliich can be thrown into the meeting hall, giving additional'accommodation for about 300, making a total holding capacity of close ? on 1000. It is also _ possible to extend the reading and writing room by throwing open the folding doors separating it from the meeting hall, and taking in as much of the latter as may be required. By doing this, rooms of varying size to suit different functions can be provided. The Bible Class.room, which "will. accommodate about 80 members,'is adjacent to tho chaplain's room. A- small store and an office, complete . the building equipment. The interior of the building is lined throughout with beaver board, stained Oregon batten's being used to cover the joints. This gives it ,a clean and home-like appearance,' and at the same ..time ensures a warm .building,!! free from draughts. -The^winter nightsbeing very cold at - Treri'tham' it was' deemed necessary to provide three fireplaces, whicii will be much appreciated by those who use the building. Special attention has been paid to ventilation, about which the Defence authorities are rightly very particular. The building is lighted throughout by electricity, the Church - bearing the cost of the installation, and the Defence Department providing the electric current free of charge. ■The whole of the work has been carried out by day labour, the two foremen in charge, Sir. J. Mackenzie and Mr. J. Ot;r, being Presbyterian Bible Class members. Mr. G." A. Troup was architect. The formal opening will take place on Friday, 29th September The building cost £1500, which, has been subscribed by congregations of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
