WORKING MEN'S CLUB

The leading positions in this club's annual handicap chess tourney are held by Messrs. Featonby and Douglas, each with 9 wins 2 losses and 2 games to play. Others well to the fore are : —Peake 7-3, E. E. Hicks 7-3, Wild 6-4, Larking B^-3^, and C. Reid 3-2. A close finish for the Staples Cup and other prizes is assured.

The club's draughts players are looking forward to their telegraphic match against the Otago Draughts Club—provisionally fixed for'7th and 14th October —and also to the return "Shield" match a-gainst the local Watersiders' Club.
