THE WELLINGTON CLUB.
The current telegraphic match between the Otago and Wellington Clubs was advanced a further stage on Wednesday evening, when J. J. Marlow (who came up from Dunedin to attend a bowling conference) finished his game at board 8, v. Godtschalk. After a number of exchanges each player was left vcith three pawns and a bishop. The bishops being of opposite colour it was soon apparent that neither player could score, and a draw was agreed to at move 66. When play ceased ai midnight on Saturday week there was no time to look fully into the various incomplete games. A more leisurely examination on the following Monday made it clear that Coombs (the Otago president) could force a win v. S. Gyles at board 9, and this game will, therefore, not go to adjudication. The present position is that Otago has five wins, Wellington four wins, and five games, marked incomplete, are to be adjudicated on by Messrs. Grierson, Davies, and Miles (the Auckland members of the New Zealand Adjudication Board).
Mr. W. C. White, of" Petone, is leading in the club's annual handicap ("Petherick") tourney with 7 clear wins. He is pursued by Barnes, 5 wins 2 losses; Purchas, 5-3; Tanner, 4-2; H. A. Ward, 5J,-4_; Dornbusch, 3^-2£; S. Mackay, 4-4; and Book, 3-2. The club's annual match, Bowlers v. Non-Bowlers, is projected for an early date.
