WEATHER AND CROPS
The westerly low pressure area which was predicted as likdy to pass before the barometer rose definitely intensified on Sunday, and dominated atmospheric conditions, s,o that in tht South the weathvr has been somewhat stormy. Strong westerly and southerly winds have ruled, with squally and uisettled conditions generally, and heavy mowers at times in most parts of the couitry. The forecast is now for a rising baiimeter everywhere soon. Warnings for vesterly' gales are exhibited in the North and for southerlies at Castlepoint and all South Island stations. The weather is likely to prove squally and cold, with am generally and snow on the higher levls in the South. Winds at present are vesterly here, and are likely to change to he south-west. A traveller from the Manawatu dis- x trict states that the country all round is in splendid condition. Ram fell there yesterday, and will furtler improve the farming outlook. Grass is now coming away well, and all crops re making good progress. In the lower Hawkesßay there has been a fair fall of rain, aid farmers have every reason to be pleasec with the prospects. North of Takapai; however, the position is not so satifactory. The country has not as yet puton the appearance of drought, but he ground is rapidly drying up, and s soaking rain would be welcomed. Mr. H. G. Hill, represetative of the British and Dominion Prducers' Association, states that he ha rarely seen the country in the North loking' better than it does at present. Inthe Waikato particularly feed is most abudant.
