CAPTURES AND SINKINGS

INTERESTING DETAILS. CAPTURED CREWS TREATED COURTEOUSLY. (Received October 31, 10.10 a-m.) SYDNEY, This Day.; Eastern files give interesting details of the capture and sinking of merchant vessels by the Emden, already cabled. In all cases the captured crews were courteously treated. It is stated that the commander of the Emden displays complete silence regarding his tactics. The officers are given no jdea of her in* tended movements. They receive and carry out orders, but the commander alone knows their object. The Emden's wireless intercepts all messages. One officer stated that they knew well enough where the English warships were. It is believed the cruiser obtains coal from interned colliers, though the Dutch Government ia honestly trying to preserve neutrality. NOT "THE " EMDEN. SYDNEY, This Day. Eastern papers show that the Emden, reported as being interned at Sabank, was a merchantman, and not a German cruiser of that name.
