MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. W. G. Riddoll, S.M.. presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Lewis James Hocking and Arthur Alexandor Ancell, charged with serious offences against snaill girls, were remanded until noxfc Wednesday. In each case bail was fixed at £100, with two Buretiofi of £100. Both victims are still in the hospital. Arthur Walsh and James Smith wore remanded for a week on a charge alleging the theft of a Savings Bank box, and a revolver valued at 2s from Theophilus Alexander Murray, of Luke'e-lano. Frederick Bannister was charged with exposing for palo an indecent photograph, He was remanded until to-morrow. On a charge of theft of boots from * shop front James Oliver Armstrong, with 86 previous convictions against him, was sentenced to one month' 6 imprisonment. Two such charges wore preferred against John Chambers, and on both he was fined 20s; the alternatives in each case being fixed at 7 days in gaoL For tho use of obscene languag* Armstrong was sont to prison for 21 days. For drunkenness Margaret. Itvihg wits fined 20s, and Mary M'lntoeh was convicted and discharged. Six first offehdors were leniently dealt with. UPPER HUTT CASES . The monthly sitting of the Upper Hutt Magistrate's Court, held to-day, was presided over by, Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. For procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, Sydney Crawford was fined 10s, with coats 7s. Two charges of failing to send, his children to school were preferred against John Lewis. After hearing the evidence of Sohool-Inspoctor Dineen and also the defendant, tho Magistrate impowd a fine of 10s, with costs 7s, in each case. For cruelly ill-treating a horee, Alfred Southey was fined £3, 111, addition to 7s costs.
