Waddy and Collins were the pioneer batsmen, Robinson aud Saunders opening the attack. Waddy opened confidently,bu. put Robinson through slips just out of n>acn of Hemus. Both batsmen repeated the btioke in the next over, boundaries resulting. Waddy. had a liie irom a smart return by Patrick, JuSt getting in fn time. At 38 Bennett leplaced Robinson, Waddy relishing tfie change by banging him twice to the boundary. At 12.45 the score was 51 for no wickets:— Waddy 40, Collins 11. At 52 Holland replaced Saunders,- who had 19 knocked oif him, but the f^st scoring continued. Waddy gave Bennett a very hot chance Bennett's third finger of the left hand was badly split across the point. J. M'Kenzie fielded in his place. x At the luncheon adjournment the score was 76 for no wickets — Waddy 55, Collins 19; extras 2. When play was resumed at 2 p.m. Bennett was unable to play and Taylor fielded instead. Saunders opened the attack and his second ball clean bowled Collins. 76—1—19.
