THE OTHER SIDE.

The statements contained in the above letter? were brought under the notice of a prominent member of the syndicate for which Mr. Scotland was under con-

! tract to fly. The reply to the allegations was that: (1) The syndicate had I lost money on its enterprise ; (2j that Mr. Scotland had been paid in full the sum due to him under the contract ; (3) i that, notwithstanding the fact tn«it the I syndicate was under no liability whatever Mr. Scotland •in regard to damage to the aeroplane, it had offered to put the machine in perfect repair after the accident ; (4) that there was no expectation at any time of "making a pile " out of thp business ; (5) that, in regard to Saturday's gathering at the park and the returning of money in the event of no flight taking place, the ,custom at Ilendon apparently is that it is the spectator's risk if he pays for admission and no flight takes place, but that the syndicate here gave the people pass-out checks to enable them to see a flight Laking place on either the Mon day or Tuesday evening following ; (6) that the fund now being collected tor Mr. Scotland to enable iiim to purchase a new aeroplane was quite outside the cognisance of 'the syndicate, which could not possibly reap any benefit by it; (?) that the suggestion of "unloading" on the public is entirely absurd. Additional subscriptions received at this office are : Mrs. Theo. Cooker £1, Working Man 2s, A. J. Waters ss.
