MAGISTRATES COURT
To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided aver by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Theresa Stevens, alias Russell, alias Macartney, admitted having damaged one pane of glass valued at 6s, the property of Rupert Victor Perrett. The accused had gone to a house, and on being refused admittance broke one of the windows. The Magistrate convicted her, and ordered her to make good the damagu and pay Bs, witnesses' expenses. For drunkeimess, Leonora Parker, Patrick O'Neill and Timothy ,o'Donovan were each fined 10s, with the alternative of forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Robert John Coxon was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined £3, with the alternative of a month's imprisonment, on a charge of indecency. Dolly Gambetta, alias Dolly Johnston, caire up for sentence on a charge of the theft of jewellery valued at £15, the property of Frances Mary Taylor. Mr. P. W. Jackson explained that the accussed's employer at Marton was not prepared to take her back into her service. Counsel' added * that the girl reiterated that she did send the £20 she borrowed from Mrs. Taylor to her brother in Australia. His Worship-con-victed the girl, and ordered her to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition that she remained in the Salvation Army Home for six months. Richard Lynch was remanded till Monday on a. charge of drunkenness at Masterton on t^e 16th March. When arrested the man had delirium tremens, and he was sent to the Wellington Gaol, aud thence to the Hospital. Henry Scott, chauffeur for Dr. Cahill, pleaded not guilty to (1) novstopping his motor-car, and (2) driving in a manner dangerous to the public. Mr. A. W. Blair appeared for the defendant, and Mr. Beechey prosecuted. • The Magistrate dismissed both informations, and refused to allow the defendant costs. Further hearing of the civil claim William Galloway v." W. Liverton, for £45, on account of damages to plaintiff's motor-car, will be taken by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.
