WHO WAS TO BLAME? TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — With reference to Mr. Scotland's recent aviation exhibition in Wellington and to snndry letters which have appeared in the press regarding the same, I wish to place a few facts before you, to remove a number of wrong impressions which are abroad. In the first place, a great deal has been heard of the resentment thown by the public, and their lack of sportsmanship, and so forth, which I can only characterise as so much piffle. What are the facts? On the Saturday on which Mr. Scotland was announced to make a flight a large crowd gathered to see the exhibition. After waiting two solid hours in a cold wind, it became apparent that no' flight was intended. An announcement was subsequently made by Mr. Wilford, who was in no connected with the management, that the public would be admitted free of charge on a later date. Now, my complaint is this : No sen&ible man blames Mr. Scotland in the slightest degree for not attempting the flight }n tJia weather conditions, but I do blame the management for misleading the public. No preliminary announcement was made that" the flight •y/ould be subject to weather conditions. ?Jh the afternoon in question it must have been known to the syndicate that a flight was impossible, but the public was invited to pay its shillings all the same. ' Jt is quite true that resentment was shown on the afternoon in question, but it was against the management, and not against Air. Scotland. There is no doubt that the public suffered over this business, and Mr. Botlley and his friends who hnve worked themselves into such a state of righteous indignation over the matter would be well advised to make themselves acqdainted with the facts before writing to the press. — I am, ANZANI. 27th March.
