HOLSTEIN CATTLE
IMPORTANT SHIPMENT FROM AMERICA. The importation of Holstein cattle into New Zealand is increasing year by year, and lately some large shipments have come to hand. The Union Com* pany's chartered steamer Inveric, which arrived in Wellington from San Francisco to-day, brought from America an important shipment of Holstein cattle from high register cows. In all there are ten animals— two bulls and eight heifers. Five of these are consigned to the Cluny Farm 4 Plimmerton, and the remainder are for the Agricultural Department and will be sent to the Weraroafarm. Those for the" Government were selected by Mr. W. M. Singleton, assist .director of the dairy produce division of the Department of Agriculture. They represent some of the best-founded blood of America for their particular breed. They Were specially selected on record or performance pedigree, and each one has a milk or butter-fat record backing it. This goes to show that they will be a very considerable acquisition to the breed of "black and white" in the Dominion. Three of the heifers are from the noted bull Homestead Girl de Koll Sarcastic Lad— a kill which has produced more tested daughters than any of the breed. All the animals have ar- | rived in excellent condition.
