STRANGE STORY
BY A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL ALLEGED ILL-TREATMENT BY A MAN HUMAN REMAINS FOUND. By Telegrtpb.'-presß Awoeiatton.— Copyright. (Received September 21, 9.30 a.m.) BRISBANK. This Day. A girl named Birch, aged fifteen years, had been living with John Woods and his family for nine years at Oakey. William Birch recently came to Oakey and claimed her aB his daughter. The family and the girl refused to recognise I the claim. Tha girl disappeared, but returned naxt morning and alleged that Birch had waylaid and threatened to shoot her unless she accompanied him Terrified, slit consented, and he took her to a place where a large heap of sticks had been gathered, and compelled her to remote most of her clothes. He then shockingly ill-treated her after threatening to roast her on a five. Ultimately she escaped. The police have found the ashes of a fire containing charred remains and part of a rifle. A doctor has pronounced the remains to be human, and those of a male.
