QUEENSLAND BUDGET
RECORD REVENUE. INCREASE IN~POPULATION. By Telegraph.— Pre«» Association,— Copyright. BRISBANE, 20th September. Mr. W. H. Barnes, State Treasurer, delivered his Budget statement in the Legislative Assembly to-day. The revenue collected during the past year was £5,988,347, a record total, and £215,759 above the estimate. Expenditure amounted to £5.965,692, leaving a surplus of £22,655. ' * The estimated revenue for the current year is £6,268,302, and expenditure £6,262,633, leaving an estimated surplus of £5669. r Last year the population of Queensland increased by 22,998, including 13,099 immigrants. The amount spent on immigration was £161.655. Land taken up by selectors during the year totalled 6,730,464 acres— t* record. It is estiniatcd thai 575 miles of new railways will bo opened this year, and tho policy of opening up the country will be pushed ahead vigorously.
