TROUBLE OVER REFEREE
£BT TELEGBAPH — 2ILZBB ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 12th June. The action of the Ponsonby senior Rugby team in refusing to play in a match with City on Saturday, as they objected to Mr. Williams acting as referee, was 'diseusst'.d at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union to-night. It was explai/isd, that complaint had been lodged' last year to the old Referees' Association in respect to Mr. Williams. Evidence had been taken, by the; association, who had promised to forward a decision to the Ponsonbv Club. This had not been done. Mcsabers of th» club were aware that some of the members of the executive of the union knew something of fie trouble, and had been under the impression that the union had received oniciaj intimation as to the association's finding. A 'good deal of discussion ensued, and it transpired that the union had received no such official intimation, and had not lealised .that there had been any feeling of disdatisf action ■with regard to Mr. Williams. After further explanations, Mr. Wha ley made application that the match between Ponsonby and City should be played at a future date, and the union decided to consider the. application, at then- igeeting ne&i weejfe
