The electioneering campaign has started. Tho Government candidates are relying for success on the action of the Labour Party during the fecent strike. The Premier (Mr. Denham), in opening the campaign, referred to the Labourites as "revolutionaries and obsequious courtiers of king mob." THAMES MINERS. CONFERENCE WtTH THE 1 OWNERS. MINIMUM WAGE. [BY TBLSdBAPH— PItfeSS ASSOCIATION.] THAMES, This Day. Thames miners and representatives of the mining companies held a meeting to-day. It was. a friendly conference to arrive at an agreement on the question of wages and oth«* Matters. The present mimimum wage is 8s 6d per day. This is deemed insufficient considering the increased cost of living. The men are"now asking 10s as a minimum. Instead of taking the case direct to the Arbitration Court it was deoldedi to first meet the Companies' repreeehtatiVee in friendly conference and discsuss the whole position in an endeavour to arrive at a satisfactory agreement. The men also ask for abolition of the Saturday afternoon shift. The conference is still sitting.
