POISONED BY STRYCHNINE.
An inquest- concerning the death of Alfred _ Thomas Daniel, 'a clerk ,in the Education Department, who was found dead in, .bad at his lodging!! in Nairnstrcefc on Sunday, morning, was hold by the District Coroner, Dt, W Arthur, yesterday. Dr. Kington Fyffe deposed to- conducting a post mortem examination. He found that death was duo to strychnine poisoning.
Evidence was giyon by Stanley D. Paul, manager of the Pharmaoy, Willis? street, to tho effect that deceased called at the pharmaoy on Friday and asked for strychnine. Witnegs, however, did noji supply him with, tho poifrtity but ott the following day when deceased called with, a friend ho was supplied with ton grains, deceased explaining that he wished, to kill a cat. .
In reply to a question put by deceased's brother as to how it was possible for a customer to buy such a large ouantity of strychnine at one time, witness replied that it took a good deal of poison to kill a cat. ; "Of course,' - adaeu witntss, "we a?e am own discretion in soiling," Harold James Daniel's evidence was that his brother had been in bad health for some time, but there was nothing unusual nbout hjm on Saturd.ay evening. A verdict, of poisoning by strychnine Was returned.
