OVERSEAS CLUB.
An adjourned meeting of tho nowlyr formed Wellington branch of the Overseas Club was hold in Messrs. Turnbull and Co.'s auction rooms last night. Sir Edward Gibbcs presided, and thero was a fair attendance of members.'Thp constitution of the olub, provisionally approved at the previous meeting, was adopted. The "creed" of the club is:^—"(a) To help one another; (b) to urge on every able-bodied mau the necessity of being able to bear arras; (c) to- draw together in the bond of comradeship ■ the peoples now living under the folds of the British flag; (d) to insist on the vital necessity to the Empire of British supremacy on tho" sea.." It was roported that the secretary had received forms of application for membership from the headquarters in London, and that in the future all applications for membership in Wellington must be made through the branoh. The meeting was informed that His Excellency the Governor is patron of all tho branches in New Zealand. The following officers wore elected:— President, Sir Edward Gibbos; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. L. Boattie and E. I*', Von Haaet; hon. secretary, Captain W". de R. Barltiy; hon. treasurer, Mr. Beau-champ-Platts; cpmmittee, Messrs. W. Fry, F. K. Reeves, F. J. Courtney, H. J. Wynno, W. B. Hudson, C. Gore, .intl W. E. Bethuue. ■ ' Tho object of the club, said Captain Barclay in the course of a fen remarks, is to bind together the different groups of our owi nationality scattered about : »n different parte of tho world, and ho sug« gofsted that durjng tlio coming year arrangnmonts might be made for the delivery by expeitj of public addresses on the military and naval and social necessities of the British Empire. This question was left to tho committee.
