The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Lloyd George, informed a deputation that the sugar tax was a burden on the poor, and interfered with a valuable industry, but he was unable to abolish it, ac it yielded over three million pounds. I He was convinced that such taxes should be avoided if they; could be extracted from other eourcee.
