MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court " ■was presided over by Mr. W. G. Riddell, 1 S.M. Six first offenders, who imbibed to excess, were leniently dealt with. Three of them had their bail estreated, Insobriety was admitted by Kate Wilson, alias Bethune, who was mulcted in a penalty of 20s. with the option of seven days' imprisonment. A prohibition order was issued against her. A prohibition order was also issued against Patrick Daly, who was fined 40s, with the option of fourteen days' imprisonment, for drunkenness. "I'm guilty: I want to drown myself, said John Johnson when charged with being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Mr. B. Arnold, J.P-, stated that he would nee that Johnson obtaine'd'work in the country, and he would pay the man's board in the meantime. Sydney Huxley and Wm. Spindle were jointly charged with behaving threateningly in TaranaH-street. Huxley pleaded guilty, and was fined 40s, with the option of Bevon days' detention. _ A plea of not guilty was entered by Spindle, but after hearing the evidence of the arresting constable, his Worship imposed a penalty of 20s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. Jas. Robertson Crawley was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for indecency. For drunkenness, Thos. Halford was fined ss, with the option of twenty-four hours' imprisonment. He was also mulcted in a penalty of 20s for damaging a ventilator valued at 15s, the property of the New Zealand Government, s.nd ordered to pay the cost of the damage. A young man was fined 40s and ordered to pay costs for damaging a glass door, itho property si W. J, Connor.
