DISCUSSION AT PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY. NEGOTIATIONS AT A STANDSTILL. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. SYDNEY, sth October. The Presbyterian General Assembly discussed the committee's report on the progress of the movement towards union of the churches. The report showed that as far as the Methodist and Congregational Churches were concerned the outlook for union was hopeful, but negotiations with the Church of England were at a standstill, pending- a certain decision by the Anglican General Synod. BASES OF UNION APPROVED. CIRCULAR TO STATE ASSEMBLIES. (Received October 6, 11.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Presbyterian General Assembly approved of a, deliverance, stating that it had received a report dealing with the Union of Churches, and, without committing itself to details, expressed approval of the bases of the doctrine scheme of policy, aud transmits them to the State Assemblies' presbyteries for consideration. The committee was instructed to prepare a full explanation.
