Johnson, who is at present at Rotorua, is repoTt«d to have improved considerably, and he is getting on well there. The Hon. J. Carroll left this morning for Wanganjui to confer with the Citizens' Committee in connection with the preservation of Tiver scenery. Sir Joseph, Ward will leave to-night for Christchiirch, en route for Hokitika, iw.here, by request, he will deliver a political address on Wednesday night. At the Napier Anglican Cathedral yesterday the Rev. H. 11. Robjohns was I ordained priest, and Mesteifj. R. G. Ooates and H. Collier were ordained deacons. The Hon. Dr. Findlay will leave for the Nortih to-moiiraw afternoon. On Friday, at Whangarei, he will deliver an address on native land laws and the progress of native land settlement. Mr. E. G. Hicks, sub-editor of the Free Lance, has taken over the Rotorua Times. Mr. Hicks has forwarded his resignation as president of tho Wellington branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation to the local secretary. Mr. Daniel Bayly, a very old resident of Taranaki and Wanganui, died sudd«nly at Wanganui from apoplexy, early on Sunday morning. Deceased, who was seventy-five years old, came to New Zealand when about five years of age, ! his family residing in Tairanaki. He had bean, a settler in the Wanganui district over thirty years. The death is reported from Tariki, Taranaki, of Mr. George Thomas Benge, the only son of Mr. E. F. Benige, contractor of Wellington. The deceased was employed for some years at Messrs. P. Hayman and Co.'s warehouse. He was a prominent member of the Poneke Football Clu!b, and also a member of the Trinity Methodist Bible-class, Newtown. Mr. A. J. Geary, late chief clerk in the Corporation Tramways Department, will commence his duties as chief clerk of Feilding on the Ist June. On Saturday the staff of the Tramways Department met to bid him farewell. Mr. M. Cable, assistant-engineer and manager, presided in the absence of Mr. Stuart Richardson, and in presenting Mr. Geary with a solid silver afternoon tea set, on an oak tray, referred to the good work Mr. Geary had done for the department, and to his persona.' worth, which would mak© him greatly missed by the staff. Mr. Geary replied in feeling terms. He has sdways made the pianoforte and violin ■his principal instruments, and as a pe'i'iformer he has met wibh considerable •appreciation in England, France, Russia, and Poland. For iorive years now he has identified him&elf Nvith Trinity College as an examiner, bot.h in the United Kingdom a-nd, in India and Australia. He is an accomplished linguist, speaking dour languages.
