LODGE MEETING.

i 'IV biennial special session of the Giaud Lodge of New Zealand, 1.0. G.T., was held on Friday, in the Rechabite Chambers, Bro. D. C. Cameron, G.C.T., presiding. There was a large number of representatives present from various parts of the Dominion. The financial report of the G. Sec, Bro. G. Petherick, and G.T., Bro. R. H. Rigarlsford, showed the lodge to be in a good position. The returns of membership for the year indicated an increase of two lodges and 201 members. The report of the G.S.J.W., Sister Mrs. C. Cameron, revealed the fact that there had been an increase of four juvenile temples, and 525 members during the year. There is now a total membership of adults and juveniles of about 5500. The Grand Degree was conferred upon twenty-two members, while additions were made to members of the I.S. Lodge, a special session being held by Bro. W. Johnson, D.I.C.T. During the evening there was an interesting discussion on the work of the order.

"How remorselessly the United States tariff is enforced you may understand," says the New- York correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, -'when I report that only a few days ago, I was compelled to pay 4s duty on the English 'Who's Who' for 1910, while I am acquainted personally with numerous cases in which a duty equalling in amount the full value of the article imported is charged. This harshness fell last Christinas with special severity upon tens of thousands ot people here of European origin who had received presents by post from your side of the Atlantic I know a Devonian here whose sister in Exeter sent him a fancy vest of her own making as a present, value 10s, upon which the authoiities promptly levied 10s, and would not surrender .the article, despite remonstrances, till the uttermost farthing had been paid."
