UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The University of New Zealand tennis championships commenced on the Avonside Club's court* this morning, when there was a large attendance of competitois. All conditions were favourable, and the general arrangements were excellent. One of the most exciting games of the morning was in the combined doubles, when Mire Grace and L. S. Jennings (Canterbury College) met Miss B. I. L. Reeve and (J. M. Cleghorn (Victoria College). The nrtt set was fairly even, and was won by Victoria College, 6—4, Miss Reeve playing a very fine game. In the second i»et Victoria College were 4—o,4 — 0, when Canterbury won six game* in succession and the set, a notable feature being the excellent service of Jennings. In the third set Canterbury got to 4—3,4 — 3, when Victoria College won the three remaining games in succession. The results to date- are as follow : — MEN'S CHAMPION SINGLES.
