1 CONFERENCE OF EMPLOYERS. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. .- The Seventh Annual Conference of th« New Zealand Employers' Federation was continued yesterday at the office of the Wellington Employers' Association, Woodward-street. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Ml 1 . W. G. Foster (reelected); Tice-pre,sident, the Hon. C. •M.« Luke, M.L.C. (re-elected); treasurer, Mr. R. A. 1 Scott (re-elected); trustee-, Mr. W. H. Bennett (re-elected) ; Parliamentary Committee, Messrs. James Allen, M.P., C. M. Banks, J. Beveridge, H. Inniss, S. S. Kirkcaldie, G. H. Chapman, N. F. Marley, H. Seaton, L. S. Humphries. * INCOME TAX. The conference decided to urge upon the Government or Commissioner of Taxes that at least 5 per cent. 'on the full value of all machinery should be allowed under the Income Tax Act. CONCILIATION COMMISSIONERS. A resolution was passed expressing regret that the Conciliation Commissioners had forwarded to the Arbitration Court recommendations of the Conciliation Councils as agreements to be converted forthwith into awards of the court, this being contrary to clause 43 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration. Act, 1908, and deciding to direct the attention of the Minister of Labour to the matter. , ARBITRATION ACT. It was decided to recommend : —That aii amendment of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act be introduced to provide that- industrial agreements may -be sent direct to the Arbitra- - tion Court f.o be made into<awards with" out the necessity of appearing beforeConciliation Councils ; That the Act beamerfded tto provide- that the wageß named in Arbitration Court awards shall not apply to the Government, municipal, or public relief works, which have been started to relieve distress and unemploy. cd.
