On the first day of the Dannevirka Racing Club's 'spring meeting the amount put through the totalisator was £4976,. as against £4931 on the corresponding day last year. Balance of results :—: — Maiden Flat, of 65 soys ; four and a half furlongs. — Sea Eagle, 8.0, 1 ; Celebrity, 8.0, 2; Kimmerian, 8.0, 3. Also started— Repeat, Waikehua, Rau" pan, Bonus, Gladiole, Ukuia, Captain, Miss Pigeon, Field Bell, Moree, Fashion Plate. Field Bell was left at tife post. Won by two lengths. Time,- 56 l-ssec. Matamau Flying Handicap, of 120 soys ; six furlongs. — Voetgang, 7.8, 1 • Bliss, 7.5, 2; Reformist, 6.7, 3: 'The only starters. Reformist was left at the post. Won easily by three lengths. Time, lmin 15see. Otanga Hack Welter, of 70 soys; one mile. — Polynices, 7.13, 1; King's Prize. 9.9, 2; Thetis, 9.0, 3. Also started— Parable, Hiwera, Motukawa, Farronite; Rangikapua. Won by a headTime, lmin 44 3-ssec. Tiratu Dash Handicap, of 70 v sovs; five -fmlongs. — Needlemaid, 7.5, and Lady Doris, 7.9, dead heat, 1 ; Kirn> merian, 7.10, 3. Also ran— Toanga, Conquestina, Red Wing, Apollinans, May Flower, Amarua. Lady Doris led into the straight, chased by Needlemaid. There was a rattling finish. Time, lmin 2 3-ssec. Weber Welter, of 110 soys ; seven furlongs.—Aberration, 8.9, 1; Cyrene, 8.4, 2; Waipuni, 8.3, 3. Alsv started— Vasa, Inez,, Adria, First Mate, Lamsdorff, Rose Lethe. Won by two lengths.
