EVIDENCE AT POLICE ENQUIRY. INDIGNANT WATERSIDE WORKERS. SYMPATHY WITH MR. LAURENSON. [BT TELEGKAPH — FBEHS ASSOCIATION. 1 * LYTTELTON, This Day. An indignation meeting of waterside workers was held this morning, iheie being, two hundred present. A motion was passed unanin#ously to the effect that the meeting dc:-ired to express deep indignation at the unfounded statement* regarding the honesty of the working men at Lyttelton, made by ex-Detecthe Connell, oefore the Police Commission at Invercargill, and alto desired to convey to Mr. La'urenson its sympathy with him in being subjected to an attack by a policeman against who^e methods he had defended those unable to defend themselves. The meeting further decided to request the officers of the Stevedores' Union to see that evidence is put before the Police Commission in Christchurch in refutation of the attack upon the workers of the port. It was also decided to communicate with Mr. Bishop, S.ML, with a view to having Detective Connell brought to Christchurch. to be crossexamined upon his evidence at Invercargill.
