LACROSSE REPRESENTATIVE MATCH
The members of the Auckland rep resentaive lacrosse team arrive here this aftornqo.i by the Main Trunk line. The team is understood to be in lirst-tlass condition, and should give the Wellington representatives a very hard game. It is anticipated that the play will be prominent tor fast, short passing, as there will be a number of experienced English and Canadian players taking Eart. After the match a dinner is to c given at the Hotel Windsor to the visiting* team. The sports edition of this paper will give an account of to-morrow's game. 1
During a debate in the Anglican Synod last evening, a clergyman related, with some concern, the fact that certain vacancies existed in the diocese. Later on, the Bishop declared that the diocese was better off for clergy now than was the case when he came here. Four of the parochial clergy had left the diocew, and eleven had- come here —a net gain ofi seven. This announcement was received with applause. Two expressmen, named John Jackson and David M'Goombe, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day to fighting on fhe stand at the Thorndon Railway Station. Fines of 20s, -wit^i costs 12s 6d, in default seven days' inipiisonnient, were recorded in each case. One v.-eok \vas allowed in which tomaka the payments.
