The charge of forgery preferred against the Rev. Father Curran broke down, and the case was dismissed. [Father Curran was charged with forging an agreement whereby an equity suit was settled on certain terms, with intent to defraud. J j PENNY POSTAGE. MELBOURNE, This Day. The Chambers of Manufacturers' Conference resolved in favour of" penny postage throughout Australia. CATTLE DISEASE. NEW YORK, 25th November. In connection with the outbreak of foot and mouth disease, the State of Michigan has now been included in the quarantine area. [This makes three States now under quarantine. New York and Pennsylvania being the others.] THE SHAH AGAIN CHANGES HIS VIEWS. LONDON, 25th November. Teheran advices are to the effect that, in deference to the protests made by the British and Russian Governments, the Shah has withdrawn his rescript abolishing the Constitution. [Not long before his death the late Shah ordered the formation of a National Consultative Council, composed of representatives of all classes, from the princes downwards. The Assembly was to have the privilege of giving advice on important State and public affairs, and suggesting reforms conducive to the welfare of the people of the country. Shortly after his accession the new Shah sent a message to Parliament granting all popular demands, including recognition of the fact that the country w,as under constitutional government. NEW C ABIES. LONDON, 25th November. The Chiswick, cable steamer, has sailed with two Tasmanian cables manufactured by the Siemens Company. [Negotiations with the Eastern Extension Company for the purchase of the Tasmanian cables failed, and the Commonwealth Government called for tenders for the manufacture of laying off two. Siemens Bros.' contract price is £49,000.] BURGLARY AT EPSOM. LONDON, 25th November. The house of R. Wootton, the wellknown trainer and owner, at Epsom, was visited by burglars and £500 worth of jewellery stolen. [R. Wootton is father of the wellknown ex-Sydney light-weight jockey.]
