ATTEMPTED MURDER AND SUICIDE. JEALOUSY NOT THE CAUSE. [BY TELEQBArn. — rRESS ASSOCIATION.] WAIROA, This Day. There are no additional particulars of the Opouiti tragr-dy, in which D.wid Irwin waylaid Miss Brownleo and her escort, A. E. Stevens, shot at them, and then committed suicide. At the inquest on Irwin, the evidence was according to the foTmer telegram. A verdict was returned) : "Died by a gunshot wound, self-inflicted, during temporary insanity.'' The report that jealousy was supposed to be the cause of the tragedy was unfounded. The injured man, Stevens, who was wounded in the arm, is progressing satisfactorily. The weapon usedi by Irwin wae not a. revolver, but a fowling-piece, which was deliberately reloaded after each shot.
