" THE NEWCASTLE BAND.' The Newcastle BTass Band, which arrived from Sydney this morning to take part in the Exhibition Band Contest, is to play a programme of mu&io .on the Basin Reserve Ihis evening. A collection will be taken at the gates, half the proceeds of which will be devoted to the local bospital funds. The band is the most noted brass band in New South Wales, and_ is expected to make a very big bid for the championship honours at Christchurch. Some of the best selections from its extensive repertoire will be played this evening.
