[DT TELEGHAPH — OWN COJWESPONDENT.] MASTERTON, This Day. A stable situated in Bannister-street, leased to Mr. G. W. Keeble, cab proprietor, wasj destroyed by fire at 1 o'clock this morning. Three horses wore burnt to death, and a landau and two buggies were destroyed. The loss is estimated at £500. The only insurance was £50 on the building. Influenza in a very severe form has attacked the shearers in a number of sheds in the Wainuioru district, with the result that one or two sheds havo had to close down for the time being. Wool-buyers representing English firms are being piloted through the district for the purpose of buying up clips. Owners, however, are reluctant to sell at the prices offered, and as high as lid per pound has been refused. , The bowling tournament of the Now Zealand Northern Bowling Association is to be held at Maotcrton in January next, and tho local club is making special preparations to ensure its success. The sum of £120 is already in hand towards covering tho cost of catering, and a canvass of tho business people of Masterton is to bo made for further funds. At the B.M. Court on Saturday. James Diggs, a coloured man, pleaded guilty to the' theft of £6 from Walter .Burr, a bushfeller, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
