Recce, submitted a report on the oporotion of the city tramway service lor the past three years and the prospects of the system. In the cour«e of this he eaid : — The original contract) will, it is expected, be completed within two months. The uncompleted portions to Rifccarton have now been finished and arrangements made for the Government inspector to pass this lino within two weeks. The New Brighton line ' has been open to steam for Bomo time, but lack of metal has delayed completion for elecflrical »-unning. Efforts are being made to finish it. It should not now take three weeks. Sumner, being closo to the quarries^ should not give the contractors much difficulty to finish in two months. For the twelve months ending 31st May, the number of passengers carried amounted to 6,032,061, and an increase may confidently be looked for di-rinrr the tnsiinjfc twelve months,
