[n BLKOTBIO TELBOHArH. — OOrTBIOHT.] NEW ZEALAND FINANCES. LONDON JOURNAL'S COMMENT. THE MIDLAND RAILWAY QUESTION.
[press association.] (Received August 25, 9.34 a.m.) LONDON, 24th August. The Financial News writes: — "With such creditable Budget results us were shown in July, New Zealand's credit should be excellent, and the pity is that it is dragged in the mud through the Midland Railway scandal. When tho colony effaces at. ono blow £700,000 of the capital subscribed on i\ definite undertaking embodied in a New Zealand Act of Parliament, need Mr. Seddon be surprised if other capitalists liepin to doubt the good faith of the colony. Gibes at tho money market and the. prohibitive rates will be without result until ho admits tho good cause tho market has in keeping New Zealand at a distance."
