At the Bowling Tournament yesterday the day vius mostly occupied with th* playing off of the preliminary rounds ia the single handed championships. Sneddon, who was lesjarded m many quarters as likely to go right through to tho final, was beuten in the third by Plulp, of Timaru, by a Single point, an extra head having to be played before the decision was arrived at. This round also proved fatal to Dr. R*id, W. DaJl, an* lientley, all of whom hwl been showing good form. Philp followed up. his win by decisively defeating Grenfell in tlw fourth round, and he promises to be heard of when the final stage of the singles ia reached. Manning (Christchurch) is an* other who is showing commendable form in- his game. Tho heavy work which Allnutt had gone through in the lato Auckland tournament has mude him stale, and he has now suffered defeat in the Championship Rin| Tourney, in the Doubles, and in. tli« Singles.
