Mr. Denniston, who has announced himself as .a candidate for the Mayoralty, refuses to stand aside and allow Mr. Chisholm to retain the position during the Royal visit. NAPIER, This Day. The present Mayor, Mr. G. H. Swan, who has held office for fifteen years, has announced his intention of not again seeking election to that position. A requisition is being largely signed asking Mr. J. C. M'Vay, who has been a Councillor for about eighteen years, to allow himself to be nominated for the office, and it is probable that he will accede to the request. ONSLOW BOROUGH. Mr. John Valentine has been returned imopjKwed' as Mayor of Onslow. ' The following have also been elected members of the Council without opposition — North Ward—Messrs. Alex. Ferguson,; 0. Alpine, and! A. O'Donahoo. The nominations for the other wards are as follows :—South Ward—Messrs. H. Prout, R. B. Williams, A. Neely, G. Nash, and D. Barr. East Ward— Messrs. P. Cavanagh, B. Lynneberg, J. Gardiner, and John Holmes. As only ! three Councillors are required for each ward, an election will be held on the 24th inst. Mr. G. H. Baylis will address the Melrose electors at Island Bay Schoolroom to-night. Mr. James Godber, afr the. request of a number of citizens, has agreed to become a candidate for a seat in the City Council. He addresses the electors through our columns, .and promises to submit his S views to the public at an early date. Councillor R. • Keene, of the Melrose Borough Council, announces his intention to seek re-election for the Island Bay 1 Ward. •
