THE PREMIER IN THE SOUTH [BY- TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Timaru, This Day. The Premier and Mrs. and Miss Seddon arrived at Temuka yesterday afternoon, and were met by a good muster of townspeople and the local bodies. An address of welcome was presented to the Premier by the Chairman of the Town Board, and an old man thanked him on behalf of those qualified for old age pensions. In reply to the old man, the Premier said next year would be a happy new year^ to many an old man and woman, who, in spite of thrift in many instances, would not have known where their bread was to come from. At the end of the year he expected that those who had been over-careful and pessimistic would wonder why they had opposed old age pensions, when they observed how much good was done for the money. In the afternoon Mr. Seddon, as Grand Master of New Zealand Freemasons, assisted at the consecration of the new hall for Lodge St. George, and in the evening at the installation of the Master of the lodge. To-day the Premier will drive to Geraldine, receive an address, and go on to Woodbury, the residence of Mr. Flatman, M.H.E. Thence he will return to Christchurch by the express train.
