CRICKET. QUEENSLAND v. HAWKES BAY.

[BY TELEGRAPH—PKESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, 31st December. The Queensland cricketers commenced their match against Hawkes Bay # to-day on a splendid wicket. A strong gale was blowing when play started. The local men won the toss and went to tho wickets. Lusk and Beiiuett were the first two together, but Bennett was soon disposed of, and Slaite, who joined Lusk, retired shortly after. Gore and Lusk then gave the bowlers some trouble, both hitting vigorously, and the score rose rapidly until Gore* was caught in the slips by lloare, after making 42. Lusk skied an easy ball to Donahoo, having given a fine exhibition iof batting for 61. 'The remaining batsmen made a fairly good stand, the score standing at 173 when the last wicket fell. The following are the scores: —

Byrne took four wickets for 40 runs; M'Glinclry, three for 42; Wilson, one for 34. Queensland then sent in Donahoo and Jones, A\ho scored very rapidly oR itces, Tannin, and Gore. When time nas called the score stood at 58 for the loss of no wickets—Donahoo, 33; Jones, 18. Ist January. Tho match was continued to-day. The weather was fine, aud there was a good attendance. With the score at 60, Donahoo fell a victim to the fifth ball of Kees's first over, having added only one run. Jones and M'Glinchy then pnzzled all the local bowlers before they were dismissed. Hoaro and M'Donald also added rapidly to the score, and after the former was caught Cowloy and M'Donald got together, and some lively hitting was witnessed. These two exhausted all the bowling, 380 having been brought up -without the separation being effected when stumps were drawn. Scores: —
