A PUPILS' CONCERT.
• Miss Medley and Mr. A. F. Hill combined to givs a pupils' oonoert at Thomas' Hall last evening, the vroceed3 of which are to be handed to the Unemployed Relief Fnnd. They- were assisted by Mies L. Wood, of Chriatchurob, who sang well on " Aye Maria " of Swepstone and Blnmenthat's " Sunshine and Rain." Mr. E J . Hill also Bang Mendelsßohn's " First Violet" and Toati'a "We Have Loved," both of whioh were highly appreciated. Mias Medley and Mr. A. F. Hill played the beautiful No. 2 Sonata of Grieg for piano and violin. It was a very artist io performance. The work of the pupils showed the excellence of the teaohing they have been reoeiving, and Mr. Hill is teaohing his pupils, too, to cultivate musical memory, and to so thoroughly study the work they are interpreting, as to be able to play it away from the printed page. It is only thuß that an artist should play, for only thus oan " soul " be put into the work. Miss Grace Kennedy's fine performance, a Hans Sitt violin concerto, was an excellent examplo of this. It waa a performance whioh thoroughly deserved the outburst of applause whioh fo lowed. The pianoforte pupils of Alias Medley abundantly proved their capability in Buoh performances as those of Mies Mabel Jones, who played a Schubert " Impromptu," and Miss Henderson, with a " Rondo Capricoioso " of Mendelssohn. Two young performers -Miss Edwin and Miss Wrigglesworth — played acceptably some "National Songs and Dances" arranged by Farmer, and there were performances for six hands on three pianos. Mr. Hill's pupils also gave a oonoerted performance for ten violins, and amongst the violin pnpils Mias Holt played a Svendsen oxoerpt delicately, and Misa Julia Moran gave Fapini's transcription of " Alioe, Where art ihonP " maintaining a very fine tone and showing great promise. The three pianos need were lent by the Dresden Company.
