ROSS & GLENDINING'S WAREHOUSE.

The lately improved and extended bnilding at the south-east corner of Viotoria and Harbour streets represents the progress of the four and a-half years which have elapsed sinoe Messrs. Boss * Glendinintr moved into new premises then considered adequate for their requirements. The warehouse in its present form may be regarded as one of the finest of its kind in the colony. The alterations commence at the front entrance, whioh, formerly rising abruptly from tha street, now opens into a vestibule with a tiled floor and other ornamentations. Ihe ohief alteration, however, is the extension of the whole threestory building 40ft to seaward, taking in what was formerly the packing-room, and absorbing the seotion of gronnd whioh lay between the firm's premises and those of Messrs. Sharland it, Uo. The ' result is that the warehouse now consists of throe great flats, measuring 110 ft by 59ft, with a height of 14 and 15ft, and two large additions at the back of the base floor, one measuring 48ft by 30ft, and stocked with heavy Manohester goods, snoh as carpets, linoleums, and other furnishings, and a room 76ft by 30ft for entering, packing, and delivering. Behind these again is a oovered-in yard used for storage purposes. The base floor, known as the olothingand Manobester department, now inoludes a suite of offioeß, one of whioh, 12ft by 10ft, is used by the manager, Mr. D. Jonea, and the other, 38ft by 12ft, by the clerical staff ; and an old stairoase has been lifted bodily away and replaced by a handsomely finished stairway in the oentre of the lonthern wall.- There are three departments on the first floor - the fancy and dress, whioh also inoludes mantlaa (now arranged on special show stands;, mercery, and hosiery and haberdashery. L'he top story contains principally the products of the tfo.-lyn Woollen Mills, such as flannel goods, blankets, ings, <fco Lifts comtuiraioate with all the floors— by hydraulio powor for bulk goods and a hand lift for parcels. The whole of the interior is neatly painted, well lighted, and ventilated on modern principles. The improvements were designed and carried ont by Mr. C. Lomas, with evecy satisfaction to the firm.
